Nth Root Calculator
Find square, cube, or higher whole-degree roots. Negative radicands are supported for odd degrees only.
How to use Nth Root Calculator
- Enter “Radicand”, using the units and limits shown in its label.
- Enter “Root degree (1–1000)”, using the units and limits shown in its label.
- Select Calculate or Process. Review the result and any validation message before copying or downloading available output. Reset clears the result and restores the starting inputs.
Method & assumptions
Root = sign(value) × |value|^(1/degree), with negative values allowed only for odd degrees.
Worked example
The cube root of −27 is −3.

Questions, answered
Why does a negative square root fail?
An even root of a negative number is not real. This calculator deliberately does not generate complex-number results.
Where does this calculation run?
It runs locally in your browser. Enter plain numbers without currency symbols or thousands separators; use the same currency and measurement units throughout unless a converter explicitly asks for units.
