SHA-256 Text Digest
Compute the SHA-256 digest of exact Unicode text encoded as UTF-8. The engine returns a Promise because Web Crypto digest is asynchronous; spaces and line endings affect the hash.
How to use SHA-256 Text Digest
- Enter or paste “Text to hash”. Follow the separators and formatting described in the tool introduction.
- Select Calculate or Process. Review the result and any validation message before copying or downloading available output. Reset clears the result and restores the starting inputs.
Method & assumptions
UTF-8 encode exact text → Web Crypto SHA-256 → 64 lowercase hexadecimal characters.
Worked example
abc hashes to ba7816bf8f01cfea414140de5dae2223b00361a396177a9cb410ff61f20015ad.

Questions, answered
Should I hash passwords with this?
No. Fast unsalted SHA-256 is unsuitable for password storage. This is a text integrity digest, not encryption, a keyed signature, or a password-hashing system.
Does this send my input to a server?
No. This engine processes input locally without network requests. The surrounding website may have its own analytics or scripts; avoid entering sensitive material on an untrusted site. Text fields accept at most 1,000,000 UTF-16 units unless a smaller field limit is stated.
