Extract Included Tax
Separate a tax-inclusive total into its before-tax amount and included flat-rate tax. Use the rate originally applied to the untaxed price.
How to use Extract Included Tax
- Enter “Tax-inclusive total”, using the units and limits shown in its label.
- Enter “Included tax rate (%)”, using the units and limits shown in its label.
- Select Calculate or Process. Review the result and any validation message before copying or downloading available output. Reset clears the result and restores the starting inputs.
Method & assumptions
Before tax = total/(1+rate/100); included tax = total−before tax.
Worked example
118 including 18% tax contains 100 before tax and 18 tax.

Questions, answered
Why not multiply the total by 18%?
The tax percentage was applied to the smaller before-tax amount. Multiplying the inclusive total would overstate the tax.
