How to use Word and Unicode Character Counter

  1. Enter or paste “Text to count”. Follow the separators and formatting described in the tool introduction.
  2. Select Calculate or Process. Review the result and any validation message before copying or downloading available output. Reset clears the result and restores the starting inputs.

Method & assumptions

Words are nonempty whitespace-delimited tokens; characters are Unicode code points; bytes use UTF-8. Empty text has zero lines.

Worked example

Hello world has 2 words, 11 Unicode code points, and 11 UTF-8 bytes.

Questions, answered

Why can emoji have different counts?

A visible symbol can contain multiple code points or UTF-16 units. This tool reports those explicitly and does not claim to count visual grapheme clusters.

Does this send my input to a server?

No. This engine processes input locally without network requests. The surrounding website may have its own analytics or scripts; avoid entering sensitive material on an untrusted site. Text fields accept at most 1,000,000 UTF-16 units unless a smaller field limit is stated.
